Chief Meteorologist at ABC Action News - Scored 'Most Accurate' with the most accurate overall score in the NATION for the past 5 years.
Matthew Takeaways: 1. Storm will be strong 4 or 5 hurricane up the East coast of Florida. 2, Track still hasn't changed, but just a slight move to the West could bring these winds closer to inland areas like Orlando. (Not the forecast, but must be prepared for just in case) 3. Bay Area residents will experience tropical storm force winds if you live East of I-75. West will have lower chances. 25-35 more likely with higher gusts along the coast. 4. Tornadoes are possible in bands, but unlikely in the West side. 5. Expect power outages even near the coast with gusty winds. They happen in our afternoon tstorms, they certainly will happen with a major hurricane. 6. Heaviest winds will be overnight and the first half of Friday in our area. I still believe Eastern Polk and Highlands counties will get gusts high enough to cause some damage and bring down some trees. Gusts near hurricane force. 7. You already know this one. Rule #7. We always try to be positive and hopeful in relaying hurricane information. Things can change for the better (or worse) and the Bay Area is not expecting a devastating storm. Unfortunately, the East coast is. This will be one of the strongest storms to hit Florida in our lifetime. Take it seriously. Hunker Down. And know we're here for you (better or worse) 24/7 until the threat is over.4 months ago
